Our big, rambunctious fellow is now 16 1/2 months. He is changing by leaps and bounds. Most notable is his vocabulary. We definitely have another extrovert & jabber box! A couple of weeks ago we started writing down the words he says and animal sounds that he makes - we stopped at 55, but could have come up with a few more. He surprises us with new words every day. He goes around all day naming what he sees and asking "what's this?" - literally hundreds of times a day... Some of his words have his own meaning - "tractor" means truck or tractor - he hollers this A LOT as we drive around town. "Down" typically means up or down. He just recently started saying up when we prompt him. Juice - means anything in a cup. He knows his facial body parts and his belly and toes. He calls all his grandparents by "name". I love his word for ladybug - he calls it bee-ee-bug. Dee-dos = cheerios, bay-bel = bagel, bed=bread, my-min = vitamin. He points out & names Elmo (me-mo), Ernie and Pooh. He tells me when he goes poopy. And I've learned on a couple of occasions that if he says "poopy" while he is in the bathtub, I have to get him out FAST! Yuck!
He loves following his big sister around. Here they are banging on the new drum addition to their swingset fort.
Zachary still is infatuated with his Daddy. I've never seen a kid so in love with Daddy. When Daddy isn't here he cries when he sees anything that reminds him of Daddy (a picture, his teacup, my cell phone....). When Daddy is here he cries when Daddy has to do anything else. He cries hard like his heart is breaking. If he is with Daddy - all is right in his world. We have to go outside and wave bye to Daddy every time Daddy leaves. This closure helps Zachary cope, otherwise when the door closes he has a melt down for several minutes. Recently, when Daddy is holding him and talking to someone else, Zachary turns Trey's head towards himself as if to say "you should only have eyes for me." Zachary also had a major meltdown when I sat in Trey's lap as he watched football. In about negative two seconds, Zachary was crying and clawing to get in Trey's lap too. Then he kept turning Trey's face away from me and towards himself!
Don't let the picture fool you - I'm not a Mama's boy!
Zachary has also become quite the kissy boy. He loves to give kisses - on the lips. He gets angry if I try to get him to kiss me on the cheek. So no matter how much drool or snot, he wants some lip kissin' ; )
Zachary sleeps about 11 hours each night, but takes only around 1 1/2 hour nap in the afternoon. Occasionally he'll nap 2-3 hours, but it is quite rare. He had his first ear infection last week. Poor guy! But we learned he's grown to almost 27 lb.!
Zachary is still having a tough time learning boundaries, or rather obeying boundaries. Things like pulling stuff from the trash can or chewing on my electric toothbrush prove too tempting to him. Sometimes time out gets him to stop for the moment, but the temptation creeps up again all too soon. He also often announces that he is doing something he isn't supposed to, like bringing me the video monitor while saying "no-no" or touching Daddy's speakers and shouting "no-no" so we will see him. What a boundary pusher! He is also a risk taker. I can't tell you how many times he dives face first into stuff. He is always banged up. He cries, but then goes at it again.
Things Zachary loves: DADDY, choo-choos, tractors/trucks, Elmo, monkeys, outside, going bye-bye, balls, Alicia's princess laptop or any keyboard, playing on Alicia's bed or chair
Things Zachary doesn't love: brushing teeth, Daddy leaving, sharing with Alicia, sitting in high chair when his is done
