One Month with Zachary

It has been a crazy, sleepless month, but the busyness of it all has made it fly by. The first week we were home Zachary had jaundice which made him sleep a lot but not eat very well at all. Only 2 wet diapers on that day after we came home from the hospital made us adapt a nurse, pump, syringe or bottle feed regimen that took 1.5 hours - to be repeated every 3 hours. If things went well, we got to sleep the 1.5 hours before we repeated it. Zachary was on a bili light for 48 hours - it made him glow blue. Here he is attached to the light - all you can see is the cord - we called it his monkey's tail. Thankfully he started waking up and nursing well after a few days. Things have gone much smoother since.

Alicia still loves her baby brother. She gets diapers and gas drops for him and has to hug and kiss him every night. She even shares her princesses and books! She puts them in the swing and carseat with him. She also gets very excited when he looks at her - exclaiming, "Look at you! Look at you!"

At his 3 week check up he weight 9 lb. 8 oz. and was 21.75 inches long. He had started becoming very fussy after meals and would wake up every 10-15 minutes as he slept. So.... after that check up we started him on acid reflux medicine. He has been better since, but is still a fitful sleeper. Right now he can go anywhere from 3.5-5 hours at night between feedings. The 5 hour span has only happened a few times, but he's doing what he is supposed to at 1 month old, so I have to remember that it will only be a few more weeks... then maybe I can sleep more than a couple of hours in a row.
Sleeping peacefully!
