Alicia turned 3 on October 12th. We celebrated her birthday on the 9th with a Princess Dress-up Party. We had five little princesses in attendance. Alicia dressed as Cinderella - her favorite! We had fun dressing up, dancing, and playing on the swing-set and in play houses. It was truly a girly princess day!
Alicia LOVES all the girly stuff... Pink, ballet, dancing, princesses, jewelry, beautiful things... She hates sweating, sun in her eyes and getting her hair washed. She does not like to play outside when it is hot - she will stay in the shade - even on the preschool playground. She MUST have sunglasses in the car or strolling - otherwise it is a rough time! Her imagination is amazing. She waits for the king or fairy godmother. She dances with the prince and puts on pretend ballet shoes. Her favorite "ballet music" is Tchaikovsky - we play it most of the day while she dances dressed up as a princess/ballerina.
As a birthday gift, I took Alicia to see Disney on Ice's "Princess Wishes." She was mesmerized the entire time! On the way home she said, "Mickey said to come back soon. We going back soon?" I explained that the princesses didn't live here, but the next time they were in town we would try to go see them. That didn't go over well. She wanted to go back and to take Daddy back to show him. As we were exiting the interstate to go home, she recognized where we were and said, "Stop driving!" I said, "I can't we have to go home." Alicia-"Stop driving! I don't want to go home. I want to see the princesses!" Prior to the show we got to see the "real Cinderella." Alicia was quite excited about that and still loves to stare at the picture!
Alicia is having a good year in preschool. She loves her friends and has even taught us some songs that she has learned. She knows most of her lower case letters and can usually count to twenty (sometimes she skips a couple). She enjoys playing games and puzzles. She likes longer story books now, even books without a lot of pictures. And she also likes us to make up stories about princess and the magic monkeys in the forest. She remains very particular in everything from the clothes she wears, music, where things go... She whines and throws fits more now than she did at 2 - a favorite saying while whining is "I'm having a hard time!" But she is also very compassionate. She prays for every ambulance and fire truck we see and anyone who is sick or hurt. When we have a headache (or other ailment) she prays for us and tells us that Jesus will heal us. : ) She even willingly picked out 6 stuffed animals to give the "scared boys and girls" when the EMTs were collecting small stuffed animals to take on calls.
She also is very thankful. Out of the blue she will say things like, "Thank you for doing laundry so my shirt not be dirty", "Thank you for making my sandwich," etc. - those times melt my heart since it reminds me that someone actually notices the little mom things I do all day ; ) She will remind me to say, "You're welcome" when I forget. She also usually remembers to ask to be excused from the table after dinner. We are very proud of our sweet 3 year old!
At her 3 year well-check she was 39 inches and 36 pounds. 97 percentile in each. A very big girl! She was so brave and cooperative at the doctor! She is completely potty trained for #1 - even at night! We are still working on #2 with hopes that it will follow soon; however, Alicia has told us that she will poopy in the potty when she is 6. She has not idea how long that is from now, but I think she means that she doesn't want to do it soon. ; )
