First of all, let me say that I carry my babies "down" and "out". The positive part is that I've never suffered heartburn nor had a baby kick my ribs. The negative part is that my bladder is not bigger than a golf ball and I look almost full term at six months. I haven't gained a ton of weight with either pregnancy and it is doubtful that I will even gain the recommended weight with this one since the Dr. has me on a carb counting diet and I was so sick at the beginning. But the comments keep coming...
I really should journal all the insensitive comments that I get, but here is just a snap shot of this past week. There is one person that sees me several times a week and almost every time she shakes her head (in disbelief?? pity??) and exclaims that I look bigger every day and she doesn't think there is any way that I can make it until September.
Then there was the stranger I met at a wedding last weekend that wanted to know "How many are there?". Trey, understanding her comment, but trying to help the poor lady save face said, "Well, this is our second. We already have a little girl." But no, she pressured and wanted to know how many were in THIS litter (my word not hers ; ) ) That would be ONE. She looked like she thought I had to be joking and I got it again - "There is no way you can make it until September." Head shake. Expression of disbelief. Sorry, but I probably will... No prelabor issues happening right now...
And then there is my favorite of the week.
"How much longer?"
Me - "5-6 weeks"
"I can't imagine you getting any bigger! You look like you are going to pop now!"
Ahhh... Where is a water balloon when you need it???
On the other hand, I think the comments I get from moms who have had kids in the past 10 yrs are funny. Over the top and sugar coated - these are moms that wish no one commented on their size when they were pregnant! "You look wonderful." "You don't even look pregnant from the back." (You mean the waddle doesn't give it away??) "You have that radiant pregnant glow." (it is from all the rest I get peeing every 2-3 hrs at night) Maybe some white lies, but a bit less awkward and they make me smile : )

Love this and I can totally relate! I think I did a post on what NOT to say to a pregnant woman when I was pregnant with Emily. My favorites were Does your face always break out like that or just during pregnancy and wow, you have gotten bigger and those horizontal stripes on your shirt don't help much.
I'm sure you are beautiful!!!! Hope your pregnancy is going well!
I think you look awesome..(you looked awesome with bean as well) and little bit is happy and healthy and we want him to stay till sept. Rant away this is really the only time you can be hormonal and get away with it. -Jaim'e
When I read this, I felt like you were writing my recent experiences too. Honestly though, I don't know how I could get any bigger either!
Kelly, you are beautiful. I think that a pregnant woman is one of the most beautiful creations of God. When I was pregnant, if someone didn't mention anything about my being pregnant, I wondered if they were blind or just didn't like babies, however I hated hearing, "When are you ever going to have that baby?" or "You haven't had that baby yet?". It's good that most pregnant women in their latter stage of pregnancy can't run as fast or we would run after some of those people.
Kelly, you are beautiful...not just because you are my daughter-in-love or you are the mother of my grandchildren, but because of the beautiful woman that you are and the love in your heart that you show to others as well as your family. I love you, honey. Venting is a good thing.
